I was the only parishioner at the Open Meeting of the Parish Council on the 25th March. I tried unsuccessfully to persuade the Council to pay to the Village Hall Committee the sum of £500, being the charge made for re-framing and cleaning a picture of Bishop Burton by Walter Goodin. The picture was generously donated to the village by Mrs Sally McKenzie some time ago and now at last hangs happily in the Village Hall. I believe it is unfair that the Village Hall Committee should bear the cost of the restoration since, while the picture may hang in the Village Hall, it belongs to the Village. Accordingly the Parish Council should bear the restoration cost. Although not one of Walter Goodin's better works, it is by an artist whose paintings are widely collected and sell for several thousand pounds when they rarely come on the market.
