We enjoyed our holiday in Suffolk and Norfolk - Bury St Edmunds Cathedral is beautiful and has had a huge re-vamp, including a new tower in 1970. There are so many huge churches all over East Anglia, many built of flintstone and many with amazing double hammer beam roofs/ceilings complete with wooden angels. We also saw lots of outdoor pig units and good potato crops on the sandy land, particularly near Aldeburgh and Orford Ness.

Back to our Methodist news - you will note that the first service in the month will be at 9.30 am for a trial period. We do realise that an evening service doesn't suit everyone. Our minister, the Revd Liz Allison, is busy collating the information gleaned from the questionnaire - she hopes to publish the findings in this magazine. Thank you to everyone who took time to fill them in and it is hoped that they will point the way ahead.

The Tea Party on Bryan Mere Green has had to be postponed until Saturday 28 August because we found that there was both a Coffee Morning and the Church Concert with the Quintissentials on 26th June. Tea/coffee will be served 2-4 pm, and if wet in the Chapel. Do try and come.

Thank you to everyone who supported our concert with the ever-popular Walkington Singers. The choir's varied repertoire suited their voices to perfection and everyone went home with a song in their heart and a smile, especially after the amusing anecdotes. We raised £260 for Chapel funds.

The Coffee Morning "patrons" have sent a card to congratulate Ruth Newton who is to be ordained in York Minster on Sunday. We too send our love and prayers to the Revd Ruth in her ministry and also to our minister, the Revd Liz, who has been recently appointed part-time chaplain for the Hull and East Riding Hospitals. She will be able to help many patients and their families in her work.

Enjoy your garden and the summer weather - it will soon be harvest!
Best Wishes
Pat Byass

PS No coffee mornings in August
