Mary grew up at Prospect Farm, Holme-upon-Spalding Moor during World War Two. When she was 18 she left home to train to be a secretary and worked at Ashville College in Harrogate, she really enjoyed spreading her wings and having her own income and independence.

Mary met William at a Young Farmers dance and enjoyed a whirlwind romance before marrying six months later and moved to The Grange at Bishop Burton. Just before Leonard was born, William and Mary moved to Lings Farm and she settled in and feathered her nest in what would be her home for the next 47 years. A year later Richard was born and 6 years later Elizabeth arrived. The children all went to bishop Burton School for a few years and Mary was very much involved in the church and village life. She was a regular on the flower arranging and cleaning rota at the church.

The kitchen at Lings was the HQ for the family, William and Mary would always make time to listen to all the latest goings on and would share in your happiness or support you if you were disappointed. Lunch was always ready at 12 and tea was at 5pm.

Grandchildren were a big part of Mary's latter years, Harriet and William loved going to see 'Grandma at the Farm' and Mary was a massive support to Elizabeth, she loved hearing stories about funny things they have said and done. Even through her worst times when she was ill, they could always make her smile.

She was a very selfless person, always put family before herself and will be remembered for being sweet and polite. A little lady with a big heart.

THANK YOU

We would like to thank everyone for their kind notes of sympathy and messages of support over this very sad time. Rev. Martyn Westby gave a lovely service and we would like to thank everyone for their generous donations which will go to Yorkshire Cancer Research. Also, we would like to thank the villagers for accommodating people parking in the area for the funeral and for the Altisidora for hosting the wake.
