I have now abstracted from the 1911 census for England and Wales (not Scotland) two lists of people with a connection to Bishop Burton. The first list is of those who were living in Bishop Burton at the time of the census. The second list is of those who gave Bishop Burton as their place of birth.

There will undoubtedly be a number of errors and omissions in the transcription of the census. Some are mildly amusing - e.g. Kiplingcotes transcribed as Hippling Coates. If you notice any do please let me know on This email address is being protected from spambots. I will also be using the data to do the kind of analysis I did for the 1901 census. I will also be able to compare the data between the two returns. Data collected for the first time in 1911 includes: the number of years that women had been married and the number of children they had given birth to.

The third document is a list of the households referenced in the census of the village. Sadly, very few of the 90 households enumerated were identified with an address but some of our older residents may be able to put a house name or an address to some of the households.

You may find you need to "zoom in" when reading the documents to make them easier to read. If you would like the lists in a spreadsheet format please get in touch.
