Owls are one of the first species of birds to pair and breed in the spring. This is because they can spot their prey more easily while the grass is short. It takes a lot of food to raise a family so  it makes sense to breed when food is more easily available. Owls can be noisy at this time of year while establishing territories and finding a mate.

There is a barn owl which can be regularly seen at the bottom of Cold Harbour Lane. Owls are creatures of habit and can often be spotted in the same place at the same time each day.

The other morning Paul spotted a barn owl at Cold Harbour on a buddlea bush about 5 metres from his truck. It sat there and looked at him while he drove by and reversed back to have another look and then decided to fly off when he was fiddling with his phone to try and take a picture.
