DNA is used as evidence in a criminal trial for the first time. Coca-Cola changes its formula and releases New Coke. (The response is overwhelmingly negative, and the original formula is back on the market in less than 3 months.) A riot at the Heysel stadium in Belgium causes the death of 38 spectators during a Liverpool Juventus football match.

All Juniors and Top Infants went by car to Burnby Hall Gardens – picnic and ‘food for goldfish’. On to Fangfoss Pottery – all made a money box. The boxes will be fired and glazed.

The Fangfoss Pottery was set up in 1977 in the old village school in that village. It still exists today and has its web site at http://www.fangfosspottery.co.uk/

Junior classroom is used as a Polling Station. The Infants visited the Army Transport Museum at Beverley. They had a picnic and games on the Westwood. Juniors took a picnic and went on a circular walk via Walkington.

Juniors and Top infants left at 8.30 to go to the York Jorvik exhibition – walk round the Shambles – picnic in the Museum Gardens (feed squirrels and pigeons) – Railway museum – walk along walls – ice-cream by the river – return at 3.30.

School sports on the village green – two teams, yellow and blue. Yellow gained 81 points Blue 126 points. Parents went into school for tea and biscuits and to look at the children’s work. Children had lemonade and penguins.

Afternoon party – two 4th year old boys Stephen and Darren leaving. The school was due to be closed now but the D.E.S. have been asked to grant it a reprieve. The answer has yet to arrive.

 

School closed for summer holidays at 3.30

 

School was due to close on August 31st 1985. The Department of E.S. gave it another year’s grace.
